“It’s
only been a year, huh…” The girl standing at the blush of dawn murmured, her
eyes gazing at the capital of Kouka Kingdom, just straight down from the
mountains. Hak, her faithful servant, stared at her form for a while before
agreeing to her statement in his mind. A lot of things happened, and he thought
that it has been a long time since they left the capital, but only a year
passed. Many things have changed since then, and the one who changes the most
was probably the girl standing in front of him. Her appearance, her
personality, and her purpose in life changed – even though she was just a 17
year old girl.
Her name is Yona. Born a princess of
the late Emperor Il of Kouka, she was supposed to be the heir for the throne.
However, because of a conspiracy committed by the current emperor, her own
cousin, Emperor Soo-Won, she was forced to flee from her own home to save her
life.
As
a princess, Yona was a remarkable girl. She was beautiful, she was taught the
best education possible for a princess, and has an innocent mind. Her height
was average, but her stature was petite even among girls her age. She had a
pair of dark blue eyes which shines with excitement whenever her beloved cousin
came visiting her, a small nose, and lips that gave the most heart-warming
smile he’d ever seen in his life. Her skin was fair, smooth and soft, as she
wasn’t allowed to lift even a finger in the castle.
Her
most prominent feature is her hair. Long, wavy and red; her hair always
reminded Hak of the colour of the dawn. Now, she was still beautiful, but in a
different way. The petite princess was no longer innocent, her dark blue eyes
now sparked with vengeance against her father’s murderer. Her skin was a little
bit tanned and callused, the result of their search for the descendants of the
dragons of legends throughout Kouka Kingdom. She still had her red, wavy hair,
although it was cut short by her to free herself from being captured by the
unscrupulous Fire Tribe’s general’s second son, Kan Tae-Jun.
Princess Yona has had a spirited
personality since she was still a child. Honest and kind toward her people, she
was loved by everyone in the castle. But she also has her spoiled side, as she
was treated with so much attention since she was the only princess of the emperor.
She was quite ignorant of the world around her, as she was never allowed to
step out from the castle grounds by the emperor. To her, her world is the
castle. Hak once thought that the emperor was being ridiculous when he even
banned her princess from touching any weapon at all, because she would be a
completely airheaded princess by the time she was of marriageable age.
However,
the spoiled princess no longer exists. After an incident where Hak almost lost
his life, Yona strived hard to be someone who can be useful toward others. The
bow and arrow that she never touched before became her armament against her
enemy. Her ignorance vanished; she became wiser as her world expands through
their journey together. Nevertheless, Hak was glad that despite the changes she
has had, his mistress still retained her spirited personality, her honesty and
her kind nature.
When Yona was still a princess, her
purpose in life was to have her love reciprocated by Soo-Won, get married to
him, and live happily as they ruled Kouka Kingdom together. When her father was
murdered, her purpose in life was destroyed. She became a soulless puppet for a
while, mourning for the death of her beloved father and despairing her lost
love, but soon she recovered when she was in hiding at a Wind Tribe’s
territory; Hak’s village.
After
their escape from the hands of Kan Tae-Jun, Hak was badly injured because he
protected her from any injuries. When she realised that she would lose him too,
Yona found a new resolve to keep on living; assembling all four reincarnations
of the dragons from the legends to keep Hak from dying protecting her alone and
avenging her late father. Their search for the dragons was helped by Yoon, a
multi-talented pretty boy who helped them when Hak was injured.
Her
determination slowly transformed into a different resolution when she finally
finished reuniting all the dragons. She was devastated when she first learned
about the true state of Kouka Kingdom during her time in Awa, a harbour located
between the Earth and the Fire Tribe’s territory. Piracy, slavery and
corruption happened far and wide within the port. Thus, when she finally met
with all the dragons, she decided to change Kouka Kingdom into a better place,
solving all the problems she could manage.
“Are you ready, Hak?” The minute she
suddenly smiled at him, Hak was surprised and quickly woke up from his trance.
He was no longer remembering the past Princess Yona, whose life purpose changed
into turning Kouka Kingdom to a better country and was no longer a naïve and
ignorant girl. While she still maintained her honest, kind and spirited
personality, her blue eyes now glimmered with hate toward her father’s
murderer.
Even
so, when Hak saw the fluttering red hair on the horizon, he was quickly
reminded of the dawning sky. Then Hak smiled, and nodded at her. “Yes, my
princess.” He hoped that the bright red colour won’t lose its shine forever.
Wonderful character detail and depth of emotion on Yona and Hak! There is so few fanfiction in English on this perfectly more-than-decent manga... if you know indonesian, would you be able to help translate the indonesian fanfiction of akatsuki no yona on fanfiction?? Or, even better, write more fanfiction on this manga?? That would be fantastic!
ReplyDeleteHi! I am in love with the anime and manga and I really liked your fanfiction (there honestly needs to be more). It was very descriptive and had beautiful words however there is no real storyline behind it. While in loved it, it felt like reading a summary off of a wikia page. I'm sorry if that was a bit upsetting, but I have been through this too myself and I think that it is good advice to share with others!
ReplyDeleteIf you ever feel like responding, just email me at rimamashiro11@yahoo.com
Ahahahaha.... (lol) No, really, I'm sorry that it seems like a summary. It IS a descriptive essay. It's an assignment on descriptive essay for my Writing skill class last year and was supposed to be an academic writing, but I stubbornly wrote this and shove this piece on my lecturer for a grade instead (lol). That's why it doesn't have any story line, because my main purpose is just describe about Yona. So don't worry, your comment doesn't bother me at all XD Thanks for the comment though, and I'm glad that you liked it (not sure if you enjoyed it tho >3>;;;; )
